Meet the Doctors

Dr. Phil Straw, D.C.

Dr. Phil Straw, D.C., has been practicing over 15 years, his mission is to save as many seniors as possible from the crippling effects of peripheral neuropathy and the conditions associated with it. His practices exclusively treat patients with neuropathy and diabetes. In 2014 Dr. Straw published a book that is the A to Z hand book for neuropathy sufferers.  He speaks professionally on peripheral neuropathy and nutrition. When he is not working he loves coaching, paddle boarding, and spending time with his beautiful wife Guyanna and two kids, Luke and Savanna. Dr Straw, D.C. earned his under-graduate degree from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1988 and doctor of Chiropractic in 1995.

Dr. Steven Areta, D.C.

Dr. Steven Areta, D.C., was born and raised in Toronto Canada. He attended the University of Toronto where he received his Honors Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic to obtain his doctorate degree. Being under chiropractic care since a child, Dr. Areta, D.C. understands and appreciates the body’s innate ability to heal itself and takes a similar approach when treating his patients suffering from peripheral neuropathy. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, going on hikes, spending time with friends and family and cheering for his Toronto Raptors and Toronto Blue Jays.

Dr. Teni Minaeian, D.C.

Prior to joining the Optimal Health Straw Chiropractic Inc. team, and focusing on neuropathy and nutrition, Teni Minaeian specialized in treating geriatrics in an OC rehabilitation clinic. In addition to her work with Optimal Health Straw Chiropractic Inc., she is continuing her education at the Carrick Institute to obtain her diploma in Functional Neurology. She received her Doctorate Degree from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, and her Bachelors Degree in political science and biology from UC Irvine.

Dr. Alexandra Johnson, D.C.

Dr. Alexandra Johnson is a companionate and well respected doctor who has dedicated her life to helping others achieve optimal health.

Dr. Johnson received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington Minnesota. While attending Northwestern, she specialized in functional medicine, with an emphasis on how nutrition and supplements can help the body achieve its maximum potential.

Dr. Johnson also received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin River Falls. While doing undergraduate research on disease and human pathology, she realized the great importance of the nervous system and how it affects the overall body.

Dr. Johnson’s goal is to inspire healthy lifestyle changes through nutrition, chiropractic and exercise. In her spare time she enjoys working out, watching movies, entertaining, cooking and spending time with her friends and family.

Dr. Thomas Ontiveros, D.C.

Dr. Ontiveros graduated from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. His desire to help people have longer, healthier lives led him to Optimal Health. The smiles of Optimal Health patients when they regain their independence in life has fueled his desire to continually advance his own studies of peripheral neuropathy and diabetes in an effort to become more effective in his treatments. Outside of the office, Dr. Ontiveros enjoys exercising, gardening, and stargazing.

Dr. Steven Shaw, D.C.

Dr. Shaw graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from Cal State Northridge with a degree in Kinesiology, and received his doctorate from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles.  Dr. Shaw continued his post doctoral education in functional medicine, receiving his Functional Medicine Practitioner certification from Functional Medicine University.  

Dr. Shaw came to Optimal Health with a desire to help as many individuals as possible take back their lives from peripheral neuropathy.  He feels a sense of satisfaction when others are able to restore health back to their lives. He plans to continue his education in functional medicine in order to further his passion to see others reach their goal of optimal health. In his off time, Dr. Shaw enjoys training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Surfing,and spending time with his wife Stephanie and their 3 beautiful children. 

Dr. James Alfon, D.C.

Dr. Alfon graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.  His passion for helping others actively reach their health goals through proper nutrition, and providing adequate treatment plans led him to Optimal Health Straw Chiropractic. When he’s out of the office, his hobbies include playing the guitar, basketball, exercising, and breakdancing.
